The Hobie Dragoon is a sport catamaran specifically designed for young sailors
The Hobie Dragoon is a sport catamaran specifically designed for young sailors, allowing them to progress from their first sailing lessons to competitive and regatta sailing. Developed in collaboration with sailing schools, the Dragoon focuses on easy handling, effective training and the ability to develop sailing skills as the sailor gains experience.
The Dragoon is more than a training catamaran. Its design and sail plan allow young sailors to participate in regattas and progressively move towards a higher level of competitive sailing.
The Hobie Dragoon is designed to grow with the sailor.
The standard configuration provides an excellent platform for learning the fundamentals of catamaran sailing, while additional equipment such as a trapeze system and spinnaker allows sailors to progress towards faster and more technically demanding sailing.
The Dragoon is particularly well suited to young sailors who want not only to learn how to sail but also to develop their skills for competitive sailing.
Unlike the rotomolded polyethylene Hobie Wave and T1, the Hobie Dragoon features fiberglass/foam sandwich hull construction.
This construction provides a good balance between stiffness and weight while delivering the performance characteristics required for sport sailing. The hulls feature neoprene anti-skid strips for additional grip and comfort for the crew.
The Dragoon is equipped with colored Dacron sails designed for sport sailing.
The mainsail features reef points, while the jib uses a furling system for convenient handling.
The standard sail plan includes:
9.50 m² mainsail;
2.20 m² jib;
colored radial-cut Dacron sails;
reef points in the mainsail;
furling jib.
A spinnaker can also be added as an option, with an area of approximately 10.31 m² depending on the configuration.
The Hobie Dragoon can be equipped with a single or double trapeze system, allowing the crew to move their weight outboard and improve the catamaran's performance at higher speeds.
This gives young sailors the opportunity to learn techniques used on larger performance catamarans.
The Dragoon also features Lexan rudder blades, an aluminium tiller extension and an integrated mainsail traveler rail on the rear crossbar.
The Hobie Dragoon includes:
Mesh trampoline with pocket;
neoprene anti-skid strip;
Lexan rudder blades;
aluminium tiller extension;
rear crossbar with integrated rail;
mainsail traveler system;
mast float;
single trapeze system;
Dacron sails;
TCM connection kit.
This equipment makes the Dragoon suitable both for sailing instruction and for progressing into competitive sailing.
The Hobie Dragoon is an excellent choice for:
young sailors;
sailing schools;
sailing clubs;
sailing training;
first regattas;
youth sailing competitions;
sailors progressing from beginner to competitive sailing.
The catamaran is designed to allow young sailors to learn, develop their skills and progressively move towards higher-level sailing. The International Hobie Class Association describes the Dragoon as a boat designed to take sailors from initiation through to performance racing.
