HOBIE 16 CLUB is a legendary sailing catamaran designed for sailors who value speed, dynamic handling and an authentic sailing experience. Since its introduction in 1970, the Hobie 16 has become one of the world's most recognizable beach catamarans and continues to be used for recreational sailing, clubs and competitive sailing.
The HOBIE 16 CLUB features a lightweight fiberglass/foam sandwich construction combined with asymmetrical hulls. This design provides a good balance of weight, stiffness and performance, while the asymmetrical hull shape eliminates the need for daggerboards and makes beach launching and landing easier.
The double trapeze system allows the crew to make effective use of the catamaran's sail power and maintain a balanced and efficient sailing position at higher speeds.
The HOBIE 16 CLUB is equipped with a mainsail and jib:
Mainsail – 13.77 m²
Jib – 5.12 m²
Combined mainsail and jib area – approximately 18.89 m²
Durable Dacron sails
Double trapeze system
Lightweight and stiff aluminum mast
Harken blocks
Optional spinnaker available.
The large sail area combined with the low weight and efficient hull design gives the Hobie 16 its distinctive sporty and responsive character.
One of the defining features of the Hobie 16 is its asymmetrical hull design. The hulls eliminate the need for daggerboards, making the catamaran particularly practical for launching directly from a beach.
The fiberglass/foam sandwich hull construction provides a strong and relatively lightweight platform designed for active sailing.
The raised trampoline provides a spacious sailing area and helps keep the crew area drier. It also provides a comfortable platform for working with the trapeze system.
The double trapeze setup makes the Hobie 16 especially suitable for two sailors who want to take full advantage of the catamaran's performance.
The Hobie 16 uses a kick-up rudder system, making it easier to approach and leave the beach. Combined with the asymmetrical hulls, the rudder system provides responsive handling and convenient beach launching.
